HALLO JAKOB!
We met in Berlin when you played that very intimate acoustic set before the Rangleklods show back in April 2024. I remember wanting to come up and talk to you afterwards, but you were deep in conversation with fans and I didn’t want to interrupt.
A SONG
It’s inspired by Ray Bradbury’s short story “The Rocket Man”. Yes, the same story that inspired Elton John’s “Rocket Man”, link rights.

I have a song
I ended up reading it through the lens of losing someone close to you. If it’s been a while since you’ve read it, I’ll leave a link rights. Otherwise, it’s easy to find in any edition of The Illustrated Man.

The difference
At first, I tried to express those emotions through instrumental music alone, and that’s how a track called “God Save Astronauts” was born. Later I felt there was still something left unsaid, so I started turning it into an actual song.

So started the track God Save Astronauts

Somewhere along the way
I drifted quite far from the original idea. I think I originally imagined the story being told from the mother’s perspective, but in the end I realised it wanted to be told by the son. Sorry, Beth Hart, this song is not for you.

In this demo
I deliberately buried the vocal a little so it wouldn’t get in the way and so you could more easily imagine the song in your own voice.
I know you’re probably busy with the new album, so I don’t expect anything from this. If you happen to find the time to listen to the track and read the lyrics, that’s already more than enough. There’s also a “Fuck Off” button below, which is probably the most efficient way to reply.
